Milk Deliveries

Getting milk delivered may cost more but actually saves money (and plastic!)

So a few months ago I decided to switch from using plastic bottles from the supermarket for my milk, to getting milk delivered in glass bottles. The main reason for this was to reduce my use of single use plastics as it felt like I was forever throwing out (albeit to the recycle bin) plastic milk bottles.

The delivery company use electric vehicles to deliver the milk and also collect the used glass bottles when they deliver the new ones and these get recycled and can be used a number of times.

At this point I also opted for organic milk as this seemed to be a natural thing to do as I am trying to buy more and more organic food.

The one thing that I think may put people off getting milk delivered is that it is more expensive than buying milk in cartons from the supermarket. However, I have found that this is counterbalanced by the fact that I now do not need to go to the shops so often and hence spend less on food shopping in general.

Whenever I used to run out of milk I would go back to the supermarket and buy not only milk, but a bunch of other stuff. Now that the milk is delivered 3 days a week I don’t have to do that and I am sure that more than balances out the extra amount I am paying for the milk.

Added to that the organic milk definitely tastes better and I love going back to milk that has a thick chunk of cream on the top (the full fat organic milk).

There seem to be quite a few companies that are doing milk deliveries so just Google what is happening in your area and hopefully you will be able to find someone.
